questa è la prima versione su base R71, una versione successiva aveva invece pulsanti a pompa e montava R72

The Jardur Import Company was started by Samuel Klepper in New York City N.Y. in 1937. It was located at 874 Broadway in the McIntyre Building. In 1945, based on the production of various aviation and flight accessories, the company changed their names to the Jardur Aviation Company.




Brothers, passionate aviators, & owners of the Jardur Import Company, Samuel and Herman Klepper, were first employed by the Hamilton Radio Company before venturing out and designing one of the most iconic tools of WWII, the Bezelmeter, 960. In 1934, with brother-in-law Wolf Kalmin at the helm of the Hamilton Radio Company, the Kalmin’s and the Klepper’s decided to change the radio company name to the Pilgrim Electric Corporation. In 1937, these two companies both then started producing and importing, from Switzerland, exclusive aviation chronographs and aviation wrist-watches for military personnel. These companies also produced precision “Aviagation Instruments” such as the Jardur Super Flightmaster, & the Jardur Air Navigation Protractor. You can still see the Pilgrim Electric Corporation etched into the bridges of the highly precise Valjoux 71 and 72, respectively




Jardur distributed its watches and navigational flight plotters exclusively to the military through post exchanges and ships stores, clear evidence that the Jardur watch company regarded their watches as professional tools.





Samuel was a pilot and the watches he designed were for a special class of users for whom the management of time was an important element of their profession.




The original Bezelmeter 960 for example, was designed for pilots. It was essentially a cockpit instrument for the wrist. Two features incorporated in the design give clear evidence of this intent. The bezel on the case is an independent chapter ring graduated in counter clockwise hours. Rotating the ring to align the mission duration hours with the hour hand on the dial at take off gives the pilot a quick reference of the flight time remaining during any point in the mission

la spiegazione dovrebbe essere questa

in base all'angolazione del timone di coda degli aerei di quell'epoca, spostando la cloche al massimo si aveva un cambio di direzione pari a 15° ogni 5 secondi

in 60 secondi si aveva una completa inversione di rotta pari a 180°

Scusate se mi intrometto, di cronografi non so nulla e di aerei ne so pochino... ma se sposti al massimo la cloche fai un tonneau, non una virata... ed è sempre stato così su un aereo dai tempi del Bleriot

Per il resto, dici bene: quella ghiera serve di sicuro per controllare più facilmente le virate a rateo standard di 3° al secondo

non sono un pilota e forse non mi sono espresso con estrema esattezza,ma il concetto è quello che ho detto
